Grief and Loss
Grief and loss affects people in different ways. An early stage of grief is normal but prolonged grief can manifest itself into a debilitating state. Symptoms of grief include:
Shock and disbelief –It is not uncommon to feel numb or as if you are in a dream.
Sadness – Profound sadness may include feelings of emptiness, despair, and deep loneliness. A person may feel unstable or cry uncontrollably.
Guilt – You may feelings of regret over things you did not do or say. You may also feel as if you could have prevented the event or loss.
Anger – It is common to blame yourself or others.
Fear –You may feel anxious, helpless, or insecure. The death of a loved one can trigger fears about your own mortality. A loss of a job or relationship can trigger anxiety over your ability to recover.
Physical symptoms –Physical problems may include: fatigue, nausea, weight loss or weight gain, aches and pains, and insomnia.
